Raku ~ Art & Alchemy with Andy Mason

Nottingham Ceramic School are very pleased to host a Masterclass with Potter Andy Mason, who will be running his one day Raku workshop at Whistlewood Common , Derbyshire on Sunday 22nd SEPTEMBER 2024 from 9.45-4pm.

Come and enjoy this ‘live’ pottery experience in the Japanese art of Raku.

Since its 16th century beginnings, this pottery process inevitably brings excitement and suspense through glazing and firing handmade pots.

Workshop leader Andy Mason has developed his technical skills and knowledge over many years,  sharing his inspiration and insight of the ancient rituals, and contemporary practice, of Raku.

You’ll be guided through a variety of creative glazing methods, combining tradition with Andy’s individual techniques. Dramatic kiln firings follow, as your pots gradually emerge from smouldering ashes revealing the special qualities of Raku – a fusion of subtle earthy tones, metallic effects and rich deep colours.

No previous experience required, just an interest and willingness to participate, and soak up the energy, art and alchemy of Raku!
